245 – Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA)

I.  Purpose

In accordance with the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), Harris County employees who retire or retire on disability in accordance with the provisions of the Texas County and District Retirement System (TCDRS) and were covered by group benefits in effect at that time will be eligible to retain certain health and related benefit.

II.  Policy

Enrollment in the retirement system is mandatory for all employees. Employer and employee contributions are set by law.

III.  Procedure

Employees who are considering retirement are encouraged to seek additional detailed information in order to make informed decisions for their well-being. Information about the retirement system is contained in the employee’s copy of the TCDRS handbook.
