I. Purpose
All employees who resign or retire from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) must complete an exit interview with the Human Resource Division (HR).
II. Policy
The exit interview will be conducted by HR. The employee will be asked a standard set of questions and given an opportunity to discuss any concerns or information that they feel would be beneficial to the HCSO concerning their employment. Employees will also have an opportunity to ask any questions regarding insurance, benefits, final paychecks, references, or any other matters relating to employment.
III. Procedure
A. Upon submitting a resignation or retirement letter, the employee must contact HR and schedule an exit interview prior to their last working day.
B. At the conclusion of the interview, the employee will be expected to return all HCSO property if the property has not already been returned to their immediate supervisor.
C. If an employee is unable to schedule an exit interview, they have an option to complete a written exit interview questionnaire.
D. Once completed, the exit interview will be placed in the employee’s personnel file.
E. All information obtained through the exit interview is confidential and will be analyzed routinely by HR in order to identify and determine problems that may need to be addressed.
