228 – Assignment Posting

You are here:

Purpose

This policy provides guidelines on posting openings for vacant positions.

Policy

With the exception of positions not protected by Civil Service, vacant positions within the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) may be posted internally for a minimum of 10 consecutive business days. Positions may be posted both internally and externally with approval from the chain of command.

Procedure

When a position becomes available, the immediate supervisor needs to complete a “Request to Post Position” form and route it through the chain of command to the Bureau Major.

The applicable job posting form should be included with the “Request to Post Position” form.

Once the respective Major’s signature is obtained on the “Request to Post Position” form, the original will be forwarded to the Human Resources Division (HR) for processing. An electronic version of the job posting form will also be submitted to HR.

The position will be posted internally on the HCSO Intranet for a minimum of 10 consecutive business days. Positions may be posted externally simultaneously. Once the job posting closes, HR will prepare the application packets for review by the supervisor, or his or her designee.

After the interview process is complete, the supervisor must complete a selection letter, if applicable, and route it to HR through the chain of command up to the chief of the respective command.

If no selection is made, the position may be posted externally until filled.
