228 – Assignment Posting

I. Policy

With the exception of non-Civil-Service-protected positions, all positions within the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) shall be posted internally for ten (10) consecutive business days. Positions may be posted both internally and externally simultaneously if approved through the chain of command.

II. Procedure

A. When a position becomes available, a “Request to Post Position” form shall be completed by the immediate supervisor and routed through the chain of command to the chief of the respective command. The applicable job posting form must be included with the “Request to Post Position” form.

B. Once the respective chief’s signature is obtained on the “Request to Post Position” form, the original shall be forwarded to the HR for processing. An electronic version of the job posting form shall also be submitted to HR.

C. The position will be posted internally on the HCSO Intranet for ten (10) consecutive business days. Upon the closing of the job posting, HR shall prepare the application packets for the supervisor or his or her designee.

D. After the interview process is complete, the immediate supervisor must complete a selection letter, if applicable, and route it through the chain of command to the chief of the respective command. The original selection letter shall be forwarded to HR.

E. Once the selection letter is received, HR will post an announcement of whether or not a selection was made on the HCSO Intranet.

F. If no selection is made, the position may be posted externally on the HCSO Jobs website or any additional external websites until the position is filled.
